Rebels Football

Ask anyone and they will tell you that one of the main attractions to attending Holy Redeemer is the outstanding Football Program. Each and every year the team dazzles their fans and creates so much school spirit. And this past year saw them have their most successful season to date winning the bronze medal at the provincial championships.

“2021 saw a record breaking year for us,” says Head Coach Mike Bachinsky referring to the bronze medal finish at ASAA Provincial Championship. “It was a hard fought season that saw many ups and downs, but what stayed consistent was the dedication by our student athletes.”

The Rebels squad finished the year with an impressive record of 6 wins and 3 losses. Their only loss in the provincial playoff championship came against Hanna in the hotly contested semi-final. Hanna had won the last six provincial championships and had never gone behind in a game in the past four seasons. That all changed when the Rebels scored a fairy tale first touchdown against them, and then HRH gave them a run for their money. In the end, the Hanna were too much for HRH and the Rebels were awarded the bronze medal based on their overall record in the season marking the team’s most successful season in franchise history.

The team is ready to get started with the 2022 spring season, which is evident by the excitement building in the hallways at HRH. “Our team is ready to take things to the next level,” says Bachinsky. “So many of our athletes got a taste of what it is like to have a deep run in the playoffs and they want to do it again.”

The team is currently looking for donations to help fund the cost of the team as they look to upgrade their helmets. “We have always had a focus on offering the highest safety rated equipment for our program,” says Bachinsky. If any individuals or businesses are interested, please contact Bachinsky at HRH.

A huge addition to the Football Program this year was inclusion of a Bantam team to be played by grade 7 to 9 students. Bantam football acts as an initiation to contact football. It is played in full gear and at top speed with a focus on learning the basics and having fun.

“This program was a long time coming and plans had been in the works for a couple of years,” says Bachinsky.

The program was finally realized with the support from our football fundraising committee who collected many generous donations from local businesses such Tourmaline Oil Corp who donated $4000.

The school is now very excited for spring training to begin and to see the Bantam program really take flight.

Bachsinky concluded by saying, “A big thank you goes out to all of our sponsors, coaches and athletes for their time and support to make our entire football program a success at HRH!”
