Tickets are now available for the Holy Redeemer Drama Department’s production of Charlotte’s Web!
“Our students are looking forward to showcasing another fantastic play,” says Drama Teacher Peter Taylor. “The students have been working very hard, whether it is on stage with their characters, or behind the scenes preparing lighting, sound, or preparing the sets. They are committed to putting on a great show.”
Over 40 grade 7 to 12 students will take part in the production that is based on E.B. White’s famous novel that has become a mainstay in many elementary classrooms around the province. “Our school actually performed this show back in 2009, but we thought it would be cool to bring it back as it is such a great story,” says Taylor.
Of course, the rehearsal process has been quite different from previous years due to the school closure in October. “When we returned to school in late October, the students and I made a plan to move forward,” says Taylor. “We knew that performing during our regular showweek of the first week of December would be impossible, so we decided to pursue mid-December instead.” Now, the official dates of the play are December 15th to 18th, 7 pm at the Red Brick Arts Centre. “The students understand the challenges of the condensed schedule, but they are committed to making it work and being ready for the first performance on the 15th.” On top of the public performances, there will be some daytime performances for local schools.
Tickets for the play are $10 each and available at the school office by calling 780-723-7437. More information on the show can be found on the school’s website, holyredeemerhigh.ca.
The students have already invested so much into the production with some actors rehearsing up to four nights a week. Some of the key players in the play include Emily S who plays the title character of Charlotte, Delaney S who plays the loveable pig Wilbur, Sara S who plays the noble child Fern, and the members of the Chorus played by grade 12 students Christina B, Maya D, and Malaynie S.
The play has already garnered a lot of community support from local businesses through sponsorship donations. Thus far, the major sponsors of the play are Bannister Edson, Canadian Tire, Jensen’s Lifestyle Clothing, Pizza 73, Read’s Heating, Rigger Up Contracting, and Weyerhaeuser. The Drama Department is still collecting sponsors and if any business is interested, please contact Mr. Taylor at the school.
With that, we hope to see everyone buying their tickets as these young thespians look forward to seeing you at the show.
